Unlocking Land Permits
Players begin with a modest starting area, comprised of nine tiles. With each milestone achieved, players earn Land Permits that grant them the ability to purchase additional map tiles. The number of Land Permits increases progressively as players hit specific milestones, granting them the freedom to expand their city.
Milestones and Corresponding Land Permits:
- Start: 9 Permits
- Tiny Village: 3 Permits
- Small Village: 4 Permits
- Large Village: 5 Permits
- Grand Village: 6 Permits
- Tiny Town: 7 Permits
- … (and so on, until reaching 56 Permits at the “Megalopolis” milestone)
In total, players can accumulate 441 Land Permits, allowing them to acquire most of the tiles in the game grid. Each tile spans approximately 96 acres or 0.4 square kilometers, providing diverse opportunities for expansion.
Strategic Land Purchases
Choosing which tiles to purchase requires careful consideration. The value of a tile is determined by its build able area and natural resources. Resource-rich tiles are more valuable, with ocean tiles being less lucrative.
To acquire new land, players can access the tile grid by clicking on the map icon in the lower left corner. Here, players can spend their available Land Permits to buy individual tiles or select multiple tiles by dragging across the grid. Players must be vigilant to avoid accidental purchases of remote or undesirable tiles.
Additionally, players can strategically expand their city by purchasing isolated tiles. These disconnected areas can serve as specialized farming towns or suburban hubs, connected to the main city via high ways or railroads.
Understanding natural resources is crucial, as players may want to focus on specific industries. The “Natural Resources” view mode helps identify resource-rich tiles, while “Water” mode reveals ground water reservoirs.
