Players engage in a marathon of punishing boss fights in anticipation of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
Devoted players of Elden Ring have undertaken a monumental challenge of battling some of Dark Souls 3’s most formidable bosses as they eagerly await the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
Three committed YouTubers, Lellollo, Kyoufo, and YSh0T, have dedicated themselves to an arduous mission that JPNB initiated before retiring from confronting Malenia, Elden Ring’s most unforgiving boss. They pledged to battle Malenia every day until the DLC announcement. When this challenge began, Lellolo had only reached day 134 of facing Gael, a formidable adversary in Dark Souls 3’s Ringed City DLC. Today, they have reached day 399, and the release date for Shadow of the Erdtree remains unspecified.
While Gael may not be as menacing as Malenia, when Lellollo faces the boss with minimal armor, a single hit could spell their doom. In their latest video, the battle unfolds with five minutes of graceful dodges and precision strikes, displaying unmatched finesse whether they wield dual Uchigatanas or embrace the role of Melina with a Morion Blade. The video encapsulates the effects of spending over a year battling a single boss.
Earlier this year,
Kyoufo introduced a rival daily challenge where they confronted one of the most formidable dragon bosses in the Souls series, Midir, each day until Lellollo ceased their encounters with Gael. This entertaining twist was a playful parody of the concept of these marathon boss fight challenges. However, Lellollo’s relentless quest to confront Gael persisted, leading Kyoufo to conclude their challenge after 49 days with an imaginative Swiss Army Knife build, featuring crossbows and magic as a tribute to Boba Fett. A few days later, Kyoufo embarked on an enduring struggle against what might be the most challenging fight in all of FromSoftware’s games, with the aim of sustaining it until the release of Shadow of the Erdtree.
The Sister Friede fight entails three grueling phases against a scythe-wielding nun and her formidable giant companion. This brutal, taxing confrontation, which most players should not endure for 135 days, is now a reality. The Sister Friede battle was recently immortalized in a confrontation using the Immolation Tinder, one of Dark Souls 3’s most peculiar weapons, characterized by its dual nature as both a staff and a halberd.
In parallel,
YSh0T kept the formidable Darkeater Midir from the Ringed City DLC occupied for 262 days as they await the release of the Elden Ring DLC. They succeeded in defeating this mighty beast in less than a minute with a Greataxe in their most recent video, but they have shared numerous other battles featuring various weapons and builds.
These three unwavering players may soon see their patience rewarded. Ziostorm, a well-known figure in the Elden Ring community with a mixed track record in leak reporting, claimed that their sources hinted at a February 5th release date announcement for Shadow of the Erdtree at The Game Awards in December. FromSoftware has maintained radio silence since unveiling the game with a high-resolution image in February. However, with a tradition of entrusting major trailers to Geoff Keighley’s show in recent years, it appears probable that the gaming community may anticipate a significant announcement during the event.
