The Medieval Role-Playing Game May Expand Its Horizons to Reach Nintendo’s Audience

In a move to make gaming more accessible, Obsidian’s studio design director, Josh Sawyer, has expressed openness to the idea of the medieval role-playing game, Pentiment, finding a new home on the Nintendo Switch.

Speaking to TouchArcade, Sawyer emphasized that there are no technological barriers preventing Pentiment from being on the Switch. He further conveyed his personal desire to see the Xbox and PC exclusive title become available on as many platforms as possible in the future:

Josh Sawyer: “I think it’s possible.

I think because of the Steam Deck, a lot of people immediately ask, could this be on Switch? think that there’s nothing that would prevent it technologically from being on Switch. I would love the game to be on as many platforms as possible, but time will tell.”

Upon its initial release on Xbox, PC, and Game Pass, Pentiment garnered critical acclaim. Pure Xbox, a sibling site, awarded it a remarkable 9 out of 10 and praised its unique and captivating qualities:

Pure Xbox: “Pentiment is one of the most unique and clever games we’ve played in a very long time. It may be the fabulous art style that first draws you to this one, and it really is quite the looker, but it’s actually the very obvious care that’s been poured into the narrative and the exacting detail in every aspect of the world-building here that ends up selling the whole thing so well. With a story that really goes some places, tons of history to learn about, lots of fantastic characters to meet and plenty of fun and surprises along the way, this is one medieval murder mystery you should absolutely check out as soon as it hits Xbox Game Pass.”

Obsidian has previously brought Pillars of Eternity to the Switch in 2019, demonstrating a commitment to making its titles available on Nintendo’s platform. The willingness to explore the possibility of Pentiment on the Switch aligns with Xbox’s vision of inclusivity, as demonstrated by its recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard and the desire for Nintendo fans to be a part of the gaming nation.
