When Overwatch 2 introduced its seasonal model, Mythic skins were touted as the ultimate reward in the Battle Pass, offering a new tier of prestige above Legendary cosmetics. These Mythic skins allowed for extensive customization, starting with Genji’s skin, which featured 11 different options.

However, as subsequent seasons rolled out, players noticed a concerning trend. The customization options for Mythic skins were gradually reduced. In Season 7, the Onryō Hanzo Mythic skin was introduced as the ultimate reward in the Battle Pass. Unfortunately, it received criticism from the community for its perceived lackluster design.

Compared to the earlier Genji Mythic skin, which boasted 11 points of customization, Hanzo’s Mythic skin only offers five customization options, consisting of two weapon designs and three colors. This reduction in customization options left many players dissatisfied.
The community expressed disappointment, with some players labeling the design as “lazy” and suggesting that Blizzard was disregarding their concerns. The consensus among players was that Mythic skins were losing their appeal and becoming less distinct from Legendary cosmetics.

Despite introducing new cosmetics inspired by Diablo 4 in the Season 7 update, the overwhelming negative reaction to the Mythic Hanzo skin may prompt Blizzard to reconsider its approach to high-tier cosmetics.
As of now, Overwatch 2 developers have not directly addressed the backlash, but further updates on the situation may emerge in the coming weeks.
