A crucial item awaits ranged party members in Baldur’s Gate 3, but it’s tied to a moral dilemma involving NPC Corsair Greymon.

In the vast and immersive world of Baldur’s Gate 3, players will encounter numerous NPCs, many of whom wear remarkable armor and wield exceptional weapons. For adventurers keen on securing the most potent gear for their party, sometimes this means taking on challenging battles and making morally complex decisions. It’s the innocent or helpful NPCs that often leave players pondering whether the coveted loot is worth the moral dilemma. In this particular scenario, one NPC possesses an extraordinary bow that has ranged party members salivating, presenting a dilemma that fans of good-aligned playthroughs might grapple with.
The spotlight falls on Corsair Greymon, the NPC in question, a Duergar trader and boat captain.
Players will first cross paths with him while sailing to Grymforge in the Underdark. As his vessel pulls alongside the player’s, several dialogue options are available. These options demand successfully passing a check to avert combat, a legitimate route for acquiring the Bow of the Banshee. However, one choice players should steer clear of is attempting to shove Greymon into the water, as this unfortunate act will consign his loot to a watery grave.

For those players who manage to bypass a confrontation during their initial encounter with Greymon, he will accompany them to Grymforge, where another opportunity for combat will surface. Here, a True Soul named Nere is trapped behind rubble in the caves. Should the player free Nere and align with him, Greymon becomes a combatant on the opposing side. However, it’s important to note that Nere’s true nature is not that of a virtuous character, demonstrated by his ruthless murder of a gnome slave upon release. Thus, allying with him may not align with the player’s pursuit of a morally upright playthrough.
Thankfully, there are alternative methods to obtain the Bow of the Banshee. Players must decide between looting Greymon’s lifeless form or buying the rare Bow of the Banshee directly from him.
This remarkable weapon boasts the following stats:

- Damage: 1d6 + 1 (2-7) Piercing damage.
- Unique Ability: “Blood-Curdling Emission” – A successful hit can inflict the “Frightened” condition on the target, granting a +1d4 bonus to attack and damage rolls against Frightened creatures.
- Weapon Enchantment: +1
- Proficient Move: “Hamstring Shot” – Target an enemy’s thigh to potentially reduce their Movement Speed by 50%.
The “Frightened” condition is a potent debuff in the game, rendering affected enemies incapable of approaching party members and inflicting Disadvantage on their Attacks and Ability Checks. The Bow of the Banshee’s capacity to induce this condition, coupled with the bonus it provides against frightened foes, makes it a truly formidable weapon. Whether players decide to claim it from Corsair Greymon’s remains or purchase it from him directly, acquiring this bow is unquestionably worthwhile.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is presently accessible on PC and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version in development.
