A creative player of “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” has discovered a clever way to traverse railings without relying on mine carts, a traditional mode of transportation in the game. In the Tears of the Kingdom, players encounter numerous railings across Hyrule, The Depths, and the Sky Islands, but mine carts are not always readily available. This innovative trick offers a practical alternative for rail travel in such situations.

In this game, which introduced new concepts and gameplay styles to “The Legend of Zelda” series, players have the opportunity to explore floating islands in the sky and employ Link’s new abilities. One of the fresh ideas introduced by Tears of the Kingdom is the presence of rails that crisscross the world, allowing Link to move between various map areas. Ordinarily, players use a fan to propel a mine cart along these rails, but a resourceful player has devised another method.
A Reddit user named zeeeekrei shared a video in the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit showcasing a makeshift vehicle that can be employed on most game rails. In the video, Link utilizes a Zonai device-based vehicle to ascend a railing on the Great Sky Island, allowing him to reach a higher part of the island. The vehicle moves at a relatively slow pace and encounters a minor obstacle near the top of the railing, but it successfully transports Link from point A to point B.
To craft this makeshift vehicle, zeeeekrei combined two small wheels, each fused with a downward stake on either side, using essential Zonai devices found in Tears of the Kingdom. The assembly is a quick and practical solution when a mine cart is unavailable in the area. One commenter suggested adding a Steering Stick to enable reverse driving. The only drawback is that some railings in the game have boards or metal pieces on the underside, which can snag the stakes.
An additional method to travel along Tears of the Kingdom’s rails is by crafting a skateboard. Players can create one by fusing a shield with a minecart, providing an excellent way to navigate steep hills and grind rails.
