With Mortal Kombat 1’s fresh narrative and intriguing twists, fans are curious about the possibility of story DLC, and there’s good reason to be hopeful.

Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new chapter in the legendary franchise, offering a cinematic story mode that refreshes its iconic universe. As players venture into Liu Kang’s reimagined world, they encounter familiar faces with intriguing twists, providing a bridge to the series’ future. With the game set to receive DLC content through Kombat Packs, there’s considerable speculation about the potential for story-based DLC. This article delves into the hints within Mortal Kombat 1’s story, shedding light on the possibility of narrative expansions.

Analyzing the Need for Story DLC:

The tradition of Mortal Kombat DLC has given rise to expectations of story-based expansions, similar to what was witnessed with Mortal Kombat X and 11. However, the narrative of Mortal Kombat 1 offers fewer gaps for a story-based Kombat Pack than anticipated. Notably, two of the three returning characters in Kombat Pack 1, Quan Chi and Ermac, play significant roles in MK1’s story. This hints at a thoughtful narrative preparation, possibly to preempt the need for additional story characters in DLC.

Even Khameleon, a rumored Kameo Fighter from Kombat Pack 1, appears as a unique story-exclusive character in MK1. The remaining characters suitable for a story DLC pack are minor, making it unlikely to fulfill player demands.

Moreover, interdimensional opponents faced in the story seem to be alternate-timeline versions of base roster fighters or other characters with unique amalgamations. These diverse characters are more likely to be incorporated as Kameo Fighters or through other means, rather than full DLC fighters.

The Door to a Thrilling Campaign Expansion:

Mortal Kombat 1’s narrative sets the stage for intriguing possibilities. The post-credits scene teases a sequel as Havik, a Titan from another timeline, aims to recreate MK1’s climactic chaos. Though implying a sequel, concluding with a base roster character as the final boss may lack satisfaction.

Here, the potential for story DLC arises. Havik could serve as the catalyst for a narrative expansion in the spirit of MK11: Aftermath. The DLC could introduce a captivating twist: players selecting two characters, possibly including Kameos, to merge into a unified combatant. This combined fighter could navigate Havik’s tumultuous trials. NetherRealm Studios, known for outstanding single-player content, continues its legacy with the prospect of a Mortal Kombat 1 story expansion.

The utilization of different timelines adds complexity and intrigue to the narrative, setting the stage for a memorable campaign expansion. It may lead to a fresh take on the multiverse, enriched with chaos and uncharted adventures.

Conclusion: As fans eagerly anticipate more content for Mortal Kombat 1, the potential for story DLC holds promise. With clever narrative setups, character dynamics, and a strong history of single-player content, the game may indeed provide a thrilling and unexpected expansion to its captivating universe.

Mortal Kombat 1 is available for PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
