In addition to introducing a new beloved power-up, Super Mario Bros. Wonder incorporates the fascinating Wonder Effect as a distinctive gameplay mechanic. Players encounter their first Wonder Flower in the game’s initial level when Bowser invades the Flower Kingdom and pilfers one of the Wonder Flowers. As the game progresses, players encounter a Wonder Flower in each level, amplifying the excitement of the already engaging gameplay.

Initially, the developers considered teleporting players to a different location, but they eventually opted to manipulate the existing level itself. Interacting with the Wonder Flower can be bewildering at first, as it triggers various chaotic phenomena, including wavy animations, disoriented enemies, melodious Piranha Plants, and more.
The primary objective of the Wonder Flower effect is to locate a Wonder Seed within a specific level. While a Wonder Seed is typically obtained upon completing a level, players must invest effort to find others. The Wonder Flower effect introduces an additional layer of challenge, as everything accelerates and transforms abruptly, leaving players with limited time to react. Occasionally, characters themselves transform into Spike Balls, creating unexpected surprises for players.
At times, the Wonder Effect imposes time constraints, requiring players to collect the Wonder Seed within a stipulated period. Failing to do so necessitates restarting the sequence. Fortunately, players can replay the Wonder Effect if they encounter difficulties, providing an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the frenzied environment.
Furthermore, the Wonder Effect concludes when players acquire a Wonder Seed or reach the goal pole. Neglecting to collect the Wonder Seed terminates the Wonder Effect. Players can revisit and retry the sequence if necessary. Additionally, collecting scattered Flower Coins during the Wonder Effect can prove advantageous for purchasing various in-game items.
