Super Mario Bros. Wonder offers an extensive range of multiplayer options, catering to players seeking to enjoy the game with their friends or participate in global multiplayer activities.

The game presents various multiplayer modes, enabling players not only to engage with their friends but also to explore the activities and progress of other players worldwide. While the general online multiplayer aspect has faced some criticism for its limitations, playing with friends provides a distinct and enjoyable experience.

The game allows players to create rooms, organize races, and collaborate on completing levels, offering diverse and engaging gameplay opportunities. Moreover, an exciting feature in the game enables players to ride on their friend’s back if they’re playing as Yoshi. Here’s an overview of the procedures for using local co-op and online multiplayer functionalities in Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Playing Local Co-op:

To engage in Local Co-op mode, a minimum of two controllers is required. Players can use Joy-Cons if they possess any Nintendo Switch model except the Switch Lite. For accommodating more than two players, additional controllers are necessary, as the Joy-Cons support only two players. The game supports up to four players in local co-op mode.

Players can begin by launching the game and selecting their preferred save file. The game prompts users to specify the number of players participating. Following this, players must press L+R on each controller to activate them for a player. Once this step is completed, players can proceed to the character selection screen and choose a character for each player.

Playing Online Multiplayer:

For accessing online multiplayer features, players can navigate to the Menu and select the WiFi icon. If the device is not connected to the internet, the game guides users through the process of setting up an internet connection. It’s important to note that Nintendo Online subscription is required for online gameplay. Once the internet connection is established, players can view other players’ shadows on the in-game map.

While online multiplayer does not facilitate direct play with other players like local co-op, it allows for various indirect activities. For example, if a player dies and transforms into a ghost, they can revive themselves by touching a live player. Additionally, players can set up standees for other players to assist them in reviving. Moreover, players can create parties with their friends to play levels collectively or participate in races, offering additional options compared to standard multiplayer modes.
