Runil predicted the Dragonborn’s coming amid dragon resurgences and unveiled a hidden history of eluding the Thalmor’s oppression in Skyrim. It implies his quiet move to the province, striving to keep a low profile and avoid the Thalmor regime.
Unlocking Runil’s Dark Past Through Skyrim’s Game Data
Data miners have unearthed an unused quest named “Runil’s Dark Past.” This quest centers on Runil’s friends, who are concerned about his emotional state and recruit the Dragonborn to delve into his recent troubles. Runil, initially hesitant, eventually reveals his past as a formidable Thalmor battlemage during the Great War in Skyrim and other provinces. He confesses to the ruthless destruction of villages whose inhabitants worshipped Talos, sparing no one in his path, regardless of age or gender.
Following his haunting revelation, Runil is burdened by the fear of his friends discovering his malevolent past. Most of the Empire’s troops and the Thalmor’s victims were Nords, which leads him to ponder whether some of the very people he slew had ties to Falkreath. At this juncture, the Dragonborn faces a crucial decision: assure Runil that his secret is safe or reveal his dark history to his friends.
The Thalmor’s campaign against Talos worship precipitated a civil war that the Empire sought to end by banning the worship of Talos in Skyrim.
