Obsidian Entertainment Unveils the Next Major Update for Grounded, Offering Players New Ways to Enjoy the Survival Adventure Game

Obsidian Entertainment is set to launch the upcoming “Make It and Break It Update” for Grounded, a popular backyard survival game, which includes an exciting new feature called Playgrounds. Grounded gained immense popularity after nearly two years in early access and was officially released in September 2022. Regular updates have continued to enhance the gaming experience for players since then.
The forthcoming “Make It and Break It Update” for Grounded, scheduled for release on November 13, introduces the Playgrounds feature. This update is shaping up to be the most substantial one since the “Super Duper Update” in April 2023. With this update, players will have access to a comprehensive toolkit that includes almost all the assets available in the game. They can use these tools to create their own levels, incorporating mini-games, battle arenas, and puzzles, and then share them with the larger gaming community.
Adam Brennecke, the Director of Grounded, revealed that the toolkit goes beyond simply providing items to build levels. The addition of “Gadgets and Gizmos” allows players to add depth to their designs by enabling them to trigger events or create challenges based on the sound of in-game enemies. Moreover, the main game will receive quality-of-life updates, including additional challenges for Burgle quests and the removal of the dandelion glider’s requirement for a trinket slot.
As Grounded has attracted millions of players since its initial early access launch in 2020, the “Make It and Break It Update” is highly anticipated, and user-generated levels are expected to emerge soon after its release on November 13.
While Obsidian Entertainment remains dedicated to enhancing Grounded, the team is also actively working on their next game, Avowed, set for release in 2024. Avowed is an RPG that takes place in the world of Eora, known from the Pillars of Eternity franchise, offering a change of pace compared to Grounded’s survival adventures.
