Overwatch 2 Faces Fan Backlash Over Limited Customization for Season 7 Mythic Skin ‘Onryo Hanzo’

Fans of Overwatch 2 Season 7’s new Mythic skin, ‘Onryo Hanzo,’ express disappointment over the skin’s limited customization options. Unlike its predecessors, Onryo Hanzo only offers five customization choices, featuring two different bows and three skin colors. This stark reduction in options, compared to previous Mythic skins with 8 to 11 choices, has left players feeling unsatisfied.

Overwatch 2 executive producer Jared Neuss addressed the criticism on Twitter, stating that each skin has different priorities, with some emphasizing different models and others focusing on visual effects (VFX). Neuss clarified that Onryo Hanzo falls into the latter category, boasting unique voice lines, ability effects, and voice modulation. He asserted that the reduced customization options for Onryo Hanzo are not indicative of a new precedent for future Mythic skins in Overwatch 2.

However, many fans remain unconvinced, highlighting that other skins, such as Cyber Demon Genji and Amaterasu Kiriko, also feature special VFX. Some players speculate whether time constraints led to incomplete features and question the commitment to releasing a Mythic skin each season if Overwatch 2 cannot provide comparable options. Despite the skin controversy, Overwatch 2 Season 7 introduces positive elements, including a new map and a Halloween-themed Battle Pass.
