Overwatch 2’s upcoming Season 8 is bringing the Samoan Tank Mauga into the mix, introduced during BlizzCon 2023. Armed with dual chainguns, Mauga’s abilities include setting targets on fire, an aggressive charge with “Overrun,” and a cylindrical cage trap with “Cage Fight.” However, initial player trials revealed Mauga’s vulnerability, prompting the Overwatch 2 team to consider buffs for his survivability.

In response, the team is testing changes, such as replacing 150 health with armor, reducing his headshot hitbox, and potentially granting a 50% damage reduction during “Overrun.” This charge ability may also become immune to Sombra’s Hack. Additionally, the health gained from “Cardiac Overdrive” could see an increase. The team is tweaking Mauga’s dual chainguns, adjusting spread, fire rate, and damage falloff for simultaneous firing. The overall goal is to enhance survivability, make damage against smaller targets more reliable, and decrease damage output against large characters. These changes, however, are not finalized and may be subject to adjustments before Mauga’s Overwatch 2 debut in December. Season 8 is set to launch on December 5, with buffs also planned for Tank hero Roadhog.
