Overwatch 2 developers acknowledge player dissatisfaction with the Competitive mode and confirm upcoming changes. Players expressed frustration over the lack of transparency in the mode, missing features from the original Overwatch, and the absence of Skill Rating (SR) adjustments after each match. Instead of knowing their new rank after one game, players must now win five matches to determine their standing.

Developers Aaron Keller and Jared Neuss responded to player concerns, admitting that the Competitive mode needs a major update. The team plans to discuss the changes soon, withholding specific details until the next Director’s Take column. Neuss expressed agreement with players, acknowledging the system’s need for improvement. Some players remain skeptical and unhappy with the perceived lack of urgency. Beyond Competitive mode, players have also suggested stricter penalties for early match exits, particularly in ranked play. Despite the criticisms, players can engage in the ongoing PvE mode and enjoy the limited-time Underworld event while awaiting further updates.
