The main staff for the upcoming Dragon Ball Daima anime series has been announced in the January issue of Shueisha’s monthly V Jump magazine. Masako Nozawa is confirmed to reprise her role as the voice of Son Goku. Yoshitaka Yashima and Aya Komaki serve as series directors, Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru adapts Akira Toriyama’s character designs for animation, and Yuuko Kakihara supervises and writes the series scripts.
In this installment, characters such as Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma experience a reverse aging process. Notably, this differs from a similar plotline in Dragon Ball GT, where Goku turns into a child after the original series. Despite the title “Daima” having no specific meaning, the kanji can be interpreted as “Evil” in English.
The anime is scheduled for release in the fall of 2024. Akira Toriyama, the creator of the franchise, is credited for the new anime’s story and character designs. The announcement, made during New York Comic Con on October 12, highlighted Toriyama’s deep involvement in this project beyond his usual capacity. Further details about the series are expected to be revealed during the Dragon Ball games battle hour on January 27-28.
Dragon Ball Super, the previous television anime series, premiered in July 2015 and ran for 131 episodes until March 2018. Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, a film in the franchise, premiered in Japan in June 2022 and later in the United States in August. Funimation and Crunchyroll handled streaming for the TV series, and Funimation released it on home video. The film had worldwide screenings, offering both original Japanese audio with subtitles and a dubbed version in multiple languages.
