In a new developer diary video, Bandai Namco showcases dungeons and side quests, offering insights into the upcoming action RPG based on Akira Toriyama’s Sand Land manga.

Bandai Namco’s latest developer diary for the Sand Land game unveils intricate details about dungeons and side quests in this upcoming action RPG. Adapted from Akira Toriyama’s Sand Land manga, the game promises a captivating world filled with exploration, quests, and intriguing narrative elements.

The Sand Land manga, initially serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from May to August 2000, remained dormant until Bandai Namco’s announcement of a new Sand Land project in December 2022. Following this, an anime film released in August 2023 in Japan, reigniting interest in the series. Bandai Namco’s adaptation into a video game for consoles and PC was announced during Summer Game Fest 2023, bringing Beelzebub, the protagonist, to life in a parched desert realm shared by humans and demons facing a water shortage.

In the recent developer diary, Sand Land’s game producer, Keishu Minami, sheds light on the expansive world players will navigate. They can explore diverse locations, including village ruins, towns, military bases, and dungeons. These dungeons vary in scale, from small to multi-level structures, offering rare loot like high-grade materials and treasure chests. Players can use these materials to upgrade Beelzebub’s vehicle, which unlocks new paths and aids progression in specific dungeon levels.

In addition to the main narrative, side quests pepper the world, providing insights into Sand Land’s lore and characters. Completing these quests not only expands players’ understanding of the world but also encourages NPCs to settle in Beelzebub’s base camp, offering various benefits like shop items. Minami encourages players to explore and uncover the rich tapestry of side quests, each unveiling new facets of Sand Land’s universe.

The Sand Land game faithfully captures the manga’s adventurous essence, incorporating Toriyama’s distinctive character designs. Dungeon exploration promises rich rewards and expanded areas, amplifying gameplay with upgraded abilities and vehicles. Future developer diaries are expected to delve deeper into the intricacies of side quests and the evolving base camp.

Aside from Sand Land, Bandai Namco’s projects include a new Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi game, potentially set for further revelations at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2024 event in January.
