Blizzard’s recent unveiling of Overwatch 2’s new Tank hero, Mauga, sparked concerns about potential overpowered abilities, particularly with his healing Berserker passive and the seemingly unstoppable Overrun. In response, Blizzard has addressed fan worries by suggesting several heroes that could serve as effective counters to Mauga.

Blizzard named D.Va and Sigma as two notable Tank heroes capable of countering Mauga. Both can utilize defensive abilities—D.Va’s Defense Matrix and Sigma’s Kinetic Grasp—to nullify Mauga’s chaingun projectiles, preventing him from activating his self-healing Berserker passive.
Moreover, when facing Mauga’s Cage Fight Ultimate, Blizzard suggested Damage heroes Pharah and Widowmaker as potential counters. Pharah’s ability to hover above the enclosed ring and Widowmaker’s capacity to grapple to a vantage point above the barrier allow them to bypass the Cage Fight’s limitations.

While Blizzard acknowledges these potential counters, they also anticipate players discovering additional strategies and hero interactions as they experiment with Mauga in Overwatch 2. Mauga is currently available for a limited free trial until November 5, with his official inclusion in the roster scheduled for Overwatch 2 Season 8 starting on December 5.
