Game director Ion Hazzikostas addresses concerns about early access for The War Within in World of Warcraft, assuring no unfair advantages.

World of Warcraft’s game director, Ion Hazzikostas, recently addressed concerns regarding the early access for The War Within expansion. Players purchasing the Epic Edition gain a three-day head start, sparking worries about potential advantages, especially for raiding and Mythic+ dungeons. Hazzikostas clarified that this early access won’t provide long-term benefits, aiming to ease the community’s concerns.
During the announcement at BlizzCon, The War Within, part of the Worldsoul Saga, was unveiled, accompanied by controversy over the early access tied to the $90 Epic Edition. Players expressed concerns about a perceived unfair advantage granted to those who opt for this edition.

In an interview with PC Gamer,
Hazzikostas assured players that sources of player power outside leveling wouldn’t be accessible during the early access period. Rare drops, Mythic dungeons, and profession cooldowns would remain locked until after the official launch and weekly reset. He emphasized that the intent was to offer a head start primarily for players with limited time to avoid missing out on the initial rush of in-game activities.
Hazzikostas stressed, “Our goal here is to ensure there’s no long-term advantage between those with early access and those without.” Drawing parallels to previous seasons, he indicated that end-game power advantages wouldn’t impact the experience significantly, especially considering the delay in key events like Raid and Mythic+ seasons.
Despite Hazzikostas’ reassurances, some fans remain skeptical, believing that players with early access will inevitably gain an unfair edge. There’s discontent among those who view the early access model as favoring monetary investment over equal opportunities for all players.
As World of Warcraft ventures into early access with The War Within, the community awaits any potential adjustments for future expansions based on player feedback and adoption rates of the Epic Edition.
