The journey of delays and uncertainty culminates in an official release date for Skull and Bones.

Ubisoft’s highly anticipated pirate adventure, Skull and Bones, finally drops anchor with an official release date set for February 16, 2024. Unveiled during The Game Awards 2023, this naval combat game showcased fresh gameplay in a new trailer, marking a significant moment after a turbulent development path.
First revealed at E3 2017, Skull and Bones initially aimed for a pirate voyage by fall 2018. However, the game encountered various hurdles, facing delays that extended its release window. A development overhaul in 2018 pushed its release to 2019, followed by subsequent postponements to 2020, 2021, and eventually 2023. Now, after enduring this stormy development journey, Skull and Bones charts a course for an early 2024 release.
The latest trailer during The Game Awards 2023 revealed a release date of February 13, 2024, for Ubisoft+ subscribers, with a wider release on February 16 across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC platforms. Promising an immersive experience, Skull and Bones invites players to rise from obscurity to become legendary pirate leaders. The deep dive into gameplay showcased the path to infamy, intense naval battles, and an expansive open world teeming with dangers and rewards. Players can customize up to 10 different ships, each equipped with unique perks tailored to their gameplay style.
Release Date for Skull and Bones:
- February 16, 2024
- February 13, 2024 (for Ubisoft+ subscribers)
In the vast waters of Skull and Bones, players assume the role of ship captains, navigating perilous waters to secure resources by completing contracts from vendors, factions, and notorious figures. Naval battles stand as intense encounters where players vie for the most valuable loot, armed with an arsenal to outgun rival ships and dominate enemy forts. The game’s setting spans from the African coast to the tropical isles of the East Indies, presenting a dynamic world fraught with unpredictable weather, wildlife, and relentless pirate hunters.
The gameplay reveals the option for solo play or cooperative experiences, allowing alliances with up to two friends for shared contracts and rewards. While PvP servers cater to those seeking competitive challenges, PvE servers offer a cooperative environment. Emphasizing the captain’s perspective, the gameplay centers on ship navigation, limiting the ability to explore the vessel or engage in on-foot activities during sailing. Yet, players can temporarily leave the helm to explore hideouts and outposts.
Ahead of the launch, a closed beta from December 15 to December 18 offers an early taste of Skull and Bones. Despite its rocky development journey marred by delays, the game prepares to finally set sail, bringing hope to those eagerly awaiting its long-anticipated arrival.
