Discover Slugma’s whereabouts and the process to evolve it into the robust Fire-type Magcargo in The Teal Mask DLC.

Adding new species from the Kitakami region in part one of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s DLC has expanded the Pokedex, welcoming back some familiar ‘Mons, including the Generation Two Fire-type, Slugma.
Slugma, a volcanic slug Pokemon, finds its habitat in the mountainous landscapes near the heart of Kitakami. To complete the Kitakami Pokedex, players need to catch Slugma and its evolved form, Magcargo. Here’s where to locate Slugma and how to evolve it into Magcargo within Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
Slugma’s Location

Slugma thrives in specific mountainous zones of Kitakami, notably seen near the Crystal Pool and the Infernal Pass. Recognizable by its bright red appearance against the rocky surroundings, Slugma isn’t challenging to find in these regions.
To capture Slugma successfully, players should engage it in battle and employ strategies like inducing sleep or using specialized Pokeballs to enhance their chances. Higher-level Pokemon in the player’s party make capturing Slugma easier without depleting its HP.
How to Evolve Slugma into Magcargo

While Magcargo doesn’t roam the wild in Kitakami, Slugma evolves into Magcargo at level 38. Slugma encountered in these habitats are often at higher levels due to their availability in the later stages of The Teal Mask storyline.
Leveling up Slugma involves active participation in battles. With the game’s EXP sharing feature enabled by default, consistent victories will bolster Slugma’s strength. Alternatively, players can opt for quick leveling using Rare Candy or EXP Candy.
Magcargo demonstrates considerable improvements over Slugma in various aspects, excelling in defense but susceptible to Water and Ground-types. Employing Special moves like Flame Thrower, Lava Plume, or Incinerate is recommended for offense. Magcargo’s base stats include:
- HP: 60
- Attack: 50
- Defense: 120
- Sp. Atk: 90
- Sp. Def: 80
- Speed: 30
To mitigate Magcargo’s low Speed, players can utilize stat-enhancing items like the Choice Scarf, granting a significant 50% Speed boost. However, it restricts the Pokemon to using a single move while equipped.
