Exploring Sonic Forces Overclocked, a fan-developed mod that elevates the Sonic Forces experience.

Sonic Forces Overclocked,
A fan-created mod, emerges as a sequel to the original game, breathing new life into the divisive platformer. Released alongside Sonic Mania in 2017 for Sonic’s 25th anniversary, Sonic Forces saw Sonic and allies confronting Dr. Eggman’s world-conquering ambitions, falling short due to short levels, repetitive bosses, and untapped story potential.
Despite its shortcomings, fans recognized the positives in Sonic Forces, igniting an active modding community seeking to improve the game. The Overclocked Team released Sonic Forces Overclocked, a mod available on GameBanana, transforming the original game into a fresh experience. The mod introduces original levels, innovative mechanics, and new obstacles inspired by titles like Unleashed and Generations. Moreover, it features animated cutscenes and voiced dialogue by the Adrenaline Dubs, a team of Sonic IDW comic fandubbers. A prequel episode also introduces Metal Sonic as a playable character.
The storyline picks up after Sonic Forces, showcasing Infinite and Neo Metal Sonic uniting to create a new army with the power of the Phantom Ruby. Sonic, the Resistance, and the player avatar reunite to thwart their malevolent plans. In development since 2019, the mod’s recent release is a testament to the dedicated fan base, significantly expanding a game that initially received mixed reviews.
Based on developer and voice actor streams, the mod’s playthrough, lasting one to two hours, reveals notable game changes. It’s exclusively available for the PC version of Sonic Forces, requiring ownership of the game on Steam. Coinciding with Sega’s Winter Sale, Sonic Forces is currently priced at $10, providing fans with an opportune moment to explore this revitalized Sonic experience.
