Experience a more streamlined Temple gameplay in Starfield with the ‘Less Annoying Temples’ mod, addressing one of the game’s grindiest aspects.

A recently introduced mod for Starfield, appropriately named “Less Annoying Temples,” aims to alleviate one of the game’s most tedious features—the Temple puzzles and related quests. This fan-created mod is a noteworthy addition to the growing collection of useful Starfield mods that have emerged since the release of Bethesda’s interstellar RPG in early September.
Caution! NG+ gameplay spoilers for Starfield’s Temple mechanics and Starborn Powers ahead.
Temples have been widely criticized for being one of the grindiest aspects of Starfield. Players need to engage in a mini-game where they must quickly reach five shining distortions in a low-gravity environment to unlock and upgrade Starborn Powers. With 24 powers, each featuring ten ranks, players are required to visit 240 Temples across ten or more playthroughs to fully maximize their character’s abilities. This can be a time-consuming process, with completionists spending an estimated 40 hours or more grinding the same mini-game.
To address this concern, PC players now have access to the “Less Annoying Temples” mod, developed by Nexus Mods user Aurelianis. The mod lives up to its name by significantly simplifying Temple puzzles. Instead of requiring players to hit five distortions, it reduces the challenge to hitting just one.
Features of the Less Annoying Temples Mod:

- Fixes for bugs causing temple mapping issues.
- Removed the requirement to return to Vlad to discover new Temple locations.
- Removed tutorial messages on Temple planets.
- Shorter temple puzzles, requiring players to hit just one distortion instead of five.
Additionally, the mod eliminates the need to return to Vlad to discover new Temple locations. Players will automatically uncover another Temple location upon completing their outstanding objective, assuming one is still available in a given playthrough. The mod also addresses bugs causing Temple markers not to display correctly on the map and removes repetitive tutorial messages on Temple planets.
This mod is the second notable attempt to improve the game’s Temple mechanics. While another mod, “Simple Temple Overhaul,” removes Temples from the game entirely, “Less Annoying Temples” streamlines the experience without completely altering the original gameplay loop.
Please note that the mod requires the Plugins.txt Enabler and is only compatible with the Steam version of Starfield. The Steam version currently offers better modding support compared to the PC Game Pass counterpart. Bethesda plans to release the Starfield Creation Kit in early 2024, aiming to further enhance modding support.
