In the PS5 era, PlayStation has shifted its strategy from releasing various console designs to offering interchangeable covers for customization. Three years post-launch, the base PS5 model, with various official covers including the popular Spider-Man 2 edition, now welcomes color variants for its sleek, newer model.
At Sony’s CES event this week, Notebook Check reported via VGC that Sony discreetly showcased new slim PS5 covers. Sony presented these covers not as a major highlight, but for attendees to discover and share information about.
PlayStation previously hinted at early 2024 availability for the new model’s covers, aligning with their CES debut. Reports from last year suggested a $54.99 starting price for these covers, slightly lower than the regular PS5’s $59.99 covers, still open for pre-order.
At Sony CES, new PS5 covers in Sterling Silver, Cobalt Blue, and Volcanic Red from the Deep Earth collection were displayed, featuring a glossy finish unlike previous matte styles. Showcased were disc versions of the PS5, with expectations that digital models will also be compatible with these covers.
The PS5 has seen a surge in accessory options recently, especially during the holiday season. Late in 2023, PlayStation launched the Portal and Pulse Explore Earbuds, both of which have become highly sought-after items. PS5 accessory momentum extends into 2024, starting with the Deep Earth collection for the standard PS5 and DualSense controllers, showcased at Sony CES. Additionally, PlayStation fans can look forward to the launch of the new Pulse Elite Headset next month.
