The Unique Githyanki Perspective
In Baldur’s Gate 3, you’re not limited to just playing as an istik; the game offers a rich character creation system. Set in a world where you’re up against the fearsome ghaik, or Mind Flayers, your mission is to thwart their plans of enslaving Faerûn. The game also introduces the Githyanki, the Mind Flayers’ archenemies, allowing you to craft your own Gith character.

Dynamic Encounters at the Githyanki Crèche
Traveling without Lae’zel as a companion accelerates the pace in this segment, with minimal dialogue from other companions. Here, you’ll likely wield the zaith’isk, encounter friendly Gith NPCs who only become hostile upon detecting the relic, and face a pivotal moment with Vlaakith, making her first game appearance.
After completing this area, enjoy an exclusive reflective moment during a long rest, where you contemplate your allegiance to Vlaakith, replacing the usual dialogue with Lae’zel if she were in your party. Remember, the egg’s fate is also in your hands.
Critical Choices with Voss
Your ideals shape your second interaction with Voss. In this smoother dialogue during a long rest, you realize Voss’s intention to betray Vlaakith. This encounter is pivotal, especially if you wish to remain loyal to Vlaakith.
Vlaakith’s Confrontation and Decisions
Fast forward to Act 3, Vlaakith reappears with a proposition, giving you another opportunity to align with her by defeating Orpheus. As Lae’zel, you’d normally oppose Vlaakith unless persuaded otherwise, but playing as a Gith gives you the autonomy to decide.
Despite the game’s nudges against choosing Vlaakith, you retain the freedom to either align with her, confront her, or find an alternate path with Orpheus, the Prince of the Comet.
Determining Lae’zel’s Destiny
Lae’zel’s potential endings are similar, but you have more control over her destiny without needing dice rolls. Choices include aiding Orpheus, transforming into a Mind Flayer, leading a rebellion against Vlaakith with Voss, returning to Vlaakith as a hero, or abandoning the Gith conflicts to stay in Faerûn with newfound companions.
The Githyanki Advantage in Gameplay
While Lae’zel’s Origin may not drastically alter the game compared to others like Karlach, playing as a Githyanki provides unique insights and dialogue options due to the ongoing Gith-Mind Flayer conflict.
Opting for a Gith protagonist, especially without romantic intentions towards Lae’zel, offers a comprehensive Gith experience, complete with race perks and an engaging backstory. Alternatively, starting a romance with Lae’zel as a custom Githyanki adds depth to her narrative, potentially joining her in the battle against the Lich Queen—a conflict that equally concerns you as a Gith.
