Supermassive Games has announced the recent passing of Tony Pankhurst, the face of The Curator in The Dark Pictures Anthology, at the age of 67.
In a heartfelt post on Twitter, Supermassive Games shared, “We are all saddened to hear of Tony Pankhurst’s passing. He was the face of The Curator, and we loved working with him.” His family revealed on a tribute page that he passed away on May 9, and noted that he was a devoted Brighton Hove Albion FC football fan. They have welcomed donations to “Hospice in the Weald,” a cause to which Supermassive Games has already contributed £200.
In The Dark Pictures Anthology, The Curator serves as the omniscient narrator, engaging players by commenting on and reacting to their choices throughout the games. While Pankhurst’s likeness brought The Curator to life, the character’s voice and motion capture were performed by actor Pip Torrens. Pankhurst also appeared as The Curator in the live-action trailer for the series’ House of Ashes entry.
The Dark Pictures Anthology, developed by Supermassive Games and published by Bandai Namco, is a series of horror-adventure games. With four games comprising its first season, the series has captivated players with its immersive storytelling and interactive gameplay. The second season is set to begin with Directive 8020, announced in 2022, though a release date has yet to be confirmed.
