The official X/Twitter account for the Spice & Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf anime announced on Tuesday that the upcoming arc, “Ikyо̄ no Kamigami no Denshо̄” (Legend of the Pagan Gods), will premiere on August 19. Notably, this arc was not adapted in the original 2008 anime. Alongside the announcement, a new visual and cast members were revealed: Lynn as Elsa and Atsushi Abe as Evan.

The anime, which debuted on April 1, will air for two consecutive cours. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs, along with an English dub. This completely new series tells the story of Kraft Lawrence and his encounter with the wolf girl Holo, with Jun Fukuyama and Ami Koshimizu reprising their roles as Lawrence and Holo, respectively. Mai Nakahara also returns as Norah Arendt.
Takeo Takahashi, who directed the original series, returns as the chief director, with Hijiri Sanpei directing the anime at studio Passione. Kevin Penkin is composing the music, while ENISHIYA is producing the series. The opening theme, “Tabi no Yukue” (The Journey’s Destination), is performed by Hana Hope, and the ending theme, “Andante,” is by the musical duo ClariS.
Yen Press publishes the Spice & Wolf novels and their spinoff Wolf & Parchment: New Theory Spice & Wolf in English, as well as the manga adaptations. The series, first launched in 2006 by Hasekura, has inspired multiple anime adaptations, including two TV seasons and a virtual reality anime.
