The release of Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Walpurgis no Kaiten, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2011 Puella Magi Madoka Magica TV anime, has been postponed from winter 2024 to winter 2025. The Madoka Magica movie delay is officially attributed to “production circumstances,” a reason that has also affected other projects in the Madoka Magica franchise in the past.
First announced in April 2021, Walpurgis no Kaiten has kept fans eagerly waiting. The movie’s first trailer was released in September 2023, giving a glimpse of what to expect from this follow-up to the beloved series. The Madoka Magica sequel is known for its dark and emotionally complex narrative, beginning with the original 2011 TV anime, which also inspired two compilation movies and the 2013 sequel film Puella Magi Madoka Magica: Rebellion.
Madoka Magica follows eighth-grader Madoka Kaname, whose ordinary life is turned upside down after a fateful and magical encounter. This encounter sets the stage for a new story filled with magical girls and witches, blending elements of hope, despair, and destiny.
In addition to the upcoming film, a new game titled Madoka Magica: Magia Exedra is currently in development. Fans of the Madoka Magica franchise continue to have much to look forward to, despite the delay in the Walpurgis no Kaiten release date.
