Garden of Remembrance Main Trailer Reveals August 30 Streaming

Naoko Yamada’s short anime film Garden of Remembrance is set to make its Japanese streaming debut on August 30, 2024. A main trailer for the film, which has already earned recognition by winning the Special Distinction Prize and Audience Prize at the 2023 Bucharest International Animation Festival, was recently released, building anticipation for its premiere.

Garden of Remembrance marks Yamada’s second collaboration with Science SARU, following their successful partnership on the 2021 TV anime The Heike Story. Yamada is well-known for directing acclaimed works like Liz and the Blue Bird, A Silent Voice, and K-On!.

The story of Garden of Remembrance centers around a character referred to as “You,” whose room is filled with art supplies and an electric guitar. As “You” wake up to start the day, memories of a past connection with another character, “Me,” begin to surface, triggered by the sight of an anemone flower. The film explores the emotional ties and goodbyes shared between “Me,” “You,” and a “Childhood Friend,” weaving a poignant narrative about remembrance and loss.

Interestingly, Yamada’s next feature film, The Colors Within, also produced by Science SARU, is scheduled to premiere in Japan on the same day as Garden of Remembrance, making it a significant day for fans of her work.
