Defeating Guangzhi in Black Myth: Wukong: Strategies, Rewards

In Black Myth: Wukong, players will face a variety of challenging bosses, including the formidable Guangzhi, a Wolf Guai armed with a blazing bladed staff. As one of the early Yaoguai Chiefs, Guangzhi’s fast, fiery attacks make him a tough opponent. While defeating Guangzhi is technically optional, it’s highly recommended to tackle him early to acquire the first transformation spell, which can significantly enhance your damage output and protect your health.

How to Defeat Guangzhi

Guangzhi begins combat with a combination of two spinning slashes followed by a sweeping attack. To counter this, roll to the side or backward to avoid the strikes. Perfectly dodging the final swing opens up an opportunity for a counterattack. Casting Immobilize after dodging can amplify your damage, especially if you’ve upgraded to deal extra damage to enemies frozen mid-attack. Be mindful of Guangzhi’s burning effects, which deal damage over time and can be mitigated by rolling consecutively.

He also performs a triple-slam attack by leaping with his staff. Dodge to either side as he lands, and be ready for a counterattack after his third landing. Note that as his health decreases, he may add a fourth jump to this attack, so stay alert and dodge accordingly when his health is low. Another attack involves Guangzhi spinning his staff behind him before executing two sweeping strikes. Dodge through both sweeps to capitalize on the opening after the second swing.

Guangzhi may disengage by performing a spinning dodge away and then throwing his weapon, which spins briefly before returning. Dodge sideways to avoid the weapon and watch out for its return trajectory. Alternatively, he might prepare a spinning attack after dodging, which you should also dodge and counterattack.

When Guangzhi is at a distance, he sometimes spins his staff and holds it behind him before launching a dashing slash attack. Be prepared to dodge both the initial and potential second slash before counterattacking. For precise players, freezing him during the dash and landing a combo can stagger him, but this requires perfect timing.

Rewards from Guangzhi

Upon defeating Guangzhi, you will receive several rewards:

  1. Guangzhi’s Journal Entry: This entry provides background on Guangzhi’s story.
  2. The Bell: Ringing the bell grants access to additional features.
  3. Red Tides: The most valuable reward, Red Tides is Guangzhi’s weapon, which allows you to transform into him and use his attack moves.

Red Tides and Its Benefits

The Red Tides weapon lets you transform into Guangzhi, granting access to his attack repertoire:

  • Moon Dance: A three-hit combo that mirrors Guangzhi’s Light Attack.
  • Moon Chase: A chainable dashing attack similar to his heavy attack.
  • Focus Bar Attacks: When full, you can execute powerful moves like an overhead slam or spinning charge attack, influenced by the direction you dodge.

Additionally, all of Guangzhi’s attacks cause burning damage over time, which can be particularly useful against tough opponents like the Wandering Wight.

By mastering these strategies and utilizing Red Tides, you’ll be well-equipped to tackle the challenges in Black Myth: Wukong.
