In Borderlands 3, most missions are fairly straightforward, with objectives clearly marked on the map and in-game markers guiding you through the various rooms. However, some missions feature puzzles that can leave you scratching your head. One such puzzle occurs in Tannis’ hidden lab during the main story mission, Angels and Speed Demons. To progress, you’ll need to solve a button puzzle that involves loading the reactor.
Finding Tannis’ Hidden Lab

Tannis’ hidden lab is located beneath Konrad’s Hold on Pandora. After entering the lab via a minecart and defeating a swarm of Varkids, you’ll be tasked with completing Tannis’ puzzle. The first objective is to disengage the four couplings. This part is simple: just shoot the four red couplings in the center of the lab. Once that’s done, Tannis will instruct you to load the reactor, and this is where things get tricky.
The Reactor Console Distraction
At first, you’ll likely head over to the large console with four interactive lights next to the reactor. Your goal seems to be turning all the lights from red to green. However, no matter what you do, you can only get three lights to turn green before they reset to red. It turns out this console is just a distraction, meant to trip you up and waste your time.
Solving Tannis’ Lab Puzzle
To actually solve the puzzle, you need to head to the smaller console on the opposite side of the ramp. Look for the lever with two yellow arrows and flip it. This will complete the puzzle, much to Tannis’ satisfaction. Afterward, the reactor will move to the garage, and you’ll be able to drive Vaughn’s technical vehicle back to Roland’s Rest to finish the mission.
Conclusion
While the puzzle can be a bit confusing at first, the solution is quite simple once you realize the larger console is just a red herring. Completing the puzzle is essential for advancing through the Angels and Speed Demons mission in Borderlands 3.
