After much anticipation, drivable vehicles have finally arrived in Helldivers 2 with the Omens of Tyranny update. Among the most exciting additions is the Fast Recon Vehicle (FRV), a lightweight, scout vehicle designed to boost squad mobility during missions. While the FRV isn’t the only new feature in the update, it is one of the most highly anticipated by the Helldivers 2 community.

Currently, the FRV isn’t available as a deployable stratagem, but players can still get their hands on it for free by knowing where to look. Here’s how to find and use the FRV in Helldivers 2.

How to Find the FRV in Helldivers 2

At the moment, the FRV (often referred to as the “Jeep” by players) can only be found directly on maps during missions, rather than being called in as a stratagem. To spot one, open your map and look for the FRV icon. These vehicles are usually available right from your first landing, so be sure to locate one early to make the most of your mission.

While it’s not yet confirmed, it’s likely that the FRV will become a deployable stratagem in the future, similar to the Exosuits. According to the official PS Blog for the Omens of Tyranny update, players will be able to unlock their own drivable jeep by completing upcoming Major Orders. If this happens, the FRV will likely be added to the ship modules terminal or arsenal for free.

What Is the FRV’s Role in Helldivers 2?

Currently, the FRV’s primary function is to provide fast transportation across the battlefield. The vehicle has enough space for the entire squad, and the rear seat is equipped with a heavy machine gun (HMG) turret. This turret operates similarly to the handheld ones players can deploy, though it has a slow rate of fire and significant recoil, making it somewhat inaccurate. However, it can still serve as a useful tool when combined with other weapons.

Passengers in the FRV can lean out of the windows to fire their own weapons, making it a versatile option for squads. Long-range or splash damage weapons, like the Commando’s laser-guided missiles or explosives, work especially well in a moving vehicle, as aiming is less critical. Energy weapons, such as the Sickle or Laser Cannon, are also great choices, as they don’t require ammunition.

However, the FRV is not invulnerable. It can be destroyed if it takes too much damage. If its tires are hit, they will pop, making the vehicle harder to control. Additionally, the three passengers are at risk of friendly fire while firing from the vehicle, which adds an extra layer of danger.

Is the FRV Worth Using?

While the FRV may not be the ultimate stratagem in Helldivers 2 just yet, it provides a valuable mobility boost and a fun way to engage enemies while on the move. Its utility for transportation, combined with the potential for passenger fire support, makes it a valuable addition to any squad looking to cover ground quickly. Keep an eye on future updates, as the FRV could soon be even more integral to your tactics in Helldivers 2.
