If rumours from Bungie are to be believed, Destiny 3 is already being worked on.
With the release of Forsaken, Destiny 2’s latest addition, Year 2 has officially begun. It includes features like Gambit, a new gameplay style that combines PvE and PvP, a new plot centred around The Reef and a group of Fallen Barons that you must hunt down, a new location in The Tangled Shore, and more.

Does this expansion provide any hints as to what to anticipate from the upcoming Destiny game? The quick response is: not really.
On the other hand, Destiny 2’s previous expansion, Warmind, could have given us a clue as to what we could expect to see in Destiny 3.
In the Warmind expansion campaign, you can travel to Aurora Reach and explore Mars. You’ll see that, save from two, all of the weaponry on the list are foreign to us if you visit the nearby computer terminal. Take note of Aurora Knives and Hades Flame. Yes, we have no idea what they are or whether they’ll ever appear in Destiny 2. Both of them are absent from the Warmind campaign; perhaps they’ll appear in Destiny 3?
We’ll have to wait to see which game Bungie decides to save the mysterious weapons for, but given that the company has made hints that Destiny 3 is already in the works, the developer might have simply included the two items as Easter eggs.
In any event, you may continue reading below to learn everything else we currently know about Destiny 3.
Destiny 3: Everything we know so far
Although Destiny 3 may seem far off at this point—after all, Destiny 2 has only recently received its third DLC—rumours about large-scale projects often spread faster than you might expect. A third instalment is unavoidable, especially given that Bungie has previously said that it plans to work on Destiny for 10 years. However, it is still unclear when Bungie will release Destiny 3.
Sincerely, I don’t think Destiny 3 will be release for a very long time, which is, in my opinion, a very good thing. While critics initially praised Destiny 2, as time the game’s flaws have emerged and players have realized how janky many of its PVP components are. Since the uproar started, it has been clear that Destiny 2 suffered from many of the same problems as Destiny, many of which were brought on by rushed production.
Here is an update on the current state of Destiny 2 and how future handling of Destiny 3 by Bungie may be impacted by it.
Destiny 3 release date: When will it be released?

Given all of these difficulties, it’s unclear when Destiny 3 will be released.
It appeared like Bungie lacked a defined plan for Destiny 2’s development due to the project’s development’s confusion. Plans to carry over player characters and their weapons were abandoned in favour of just bringing over character cosmetics, and plans appeared to shift regularly throughout the development process. Because of this, I believe it is appropriate to discount claims made by Nolan North, who provides the voice of Ghost in Destiny, that Bungie had already prepared the Destiny 3 scenario.
It’s also important to keep in mind that following its first release, Destiny had two years of expansions, leaving nearly three years between Destiny and Destiny 2. Given that and all the issues with Destiny 2, it’s difficult to imagine Destiny 3 releasing any earlier than 2020 or 2021.
Destiny 3 story What is it all about?
Despite all of its flaws, critics and players alike praised Destiny 2 for its great main plot line and campaign. Contrary to the first Destiny, Bungie really crafted a compelling narrative centered on The Traveller’s fate and the Guardians sworn to guard it.
Due to the great likelihood that Bungie will continue this narrative through future expansion packs and DLC, Destiny 3 is very likely to have another global reset, much like Destiny 2’s did for the original Destiny. However, it’s unlikely that Bungie will abandon a primary game that is narratively focused just because the plot will begin a new chapter.
Destiny 3 platforms: Will Bungie ever release Destiny for the Switch?
Destiny 3 is likely to come to PC, Xbox One and PS4, just like Destiny 2 did. However, there’s a slim chance we could see Bungie and Activision eyeing up the Switch, too, thanks to its phenomenal growth within its first year. Once Nintendo brings its online platform to Switch, perhaps Bungie will be tempted to bring its online shared-world shooter to Nintendo’s latest console too.
