To adapt to the Indian market, Garena has localized Free Fire by incorporating unique content and creating an environment that encourages safe and healthy gameplay experiences. The company plans to reintroduce the game to Indian users on September 5 and has implemented features such as encouraging users to take breaks at regular intervals.

Before the ban, Free Fire had approximately 40 million monthly active users in India and was a significant competitor to other popular mobile games like PUBG and BGMI.
The ban on Free Fire caused a $16 billion drop in Sea’s market capitalization last year.

Garena’s decision to relaunch Free Fire follows Krafton’s efforts to reintroduce BGMI (Battlegrounds Mobile India) in India on a trial basis. Industry experts suggest that Garena should follow Krafton’s strategy by investing in local companies to strengthen its presence in the Indian market.

While Garena is making a comeback, analysts believe it needs to establish a more vocal identity for its India business and consider hiring an established CEO to lead its operations in the region. As of now, the Indian Ministry of Electronics and IT has not commented on Free Fire’s return.
