Goldy, the owner of S8UL Esports and 8Bit, recently expressed his reservations about the concept of having a fifth player in a Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) squad. In esports, a fifth player or substitute often steps in when a main roster member is unavailable. This backup player is essential, especially when main roster players face health issues or performance slumps due to the demanding practice schedule of 10 to 12 hours per day.

While 8Bit, a successful BGMI team, added a fifth player for the Battlegrounds Mobile India Masters Series (BGMS) Season 2 event, Goldy shared his perspective on the matter. He voiced his concerns, stating that he is against the idea of having a fifth player because it may hinder their ambitions to compete.

Although fifth players may have opportunities to learn and grow, they might not get to play in matches if the main roster is performing well. The importance of having a fifth player was evident in BGMS Season 2 when several players couldn’t participate due to health issues. Teams with fifth players had a smoother experience, while those without one faced challenges when fielding incomplete lineups.
The presence of a fifth player in a team’s lineup has its pros and cons, and while it’s not mandatory, it can be a valuable contingency in emergencies.
