In the vast expanse of Starfield, players will encounter unexpected characters and thrilling adventures. One such quest is “The Devils You Know,” a Vanguard Side Quest that introduces you to a dangerous criminal with a mysterious mission.

As you embark on “The Devils You Know” side quest in Starfield, you’ll have the rare opportunity to meet a notorious figure known as Francois Sanon, also called Vae Victus. This war criminal has a dark history involving the Terrormorph virus, which he used to create devastating weapons that resulted in countless casualties. Now, players must decide whether to bring Dr. Reginald Orlase, a key figure tied to Vae Victus, back alive or dead.

Before diving into the quest, it’s wise to prepare your ship and stock up on Ship Repair Parts, as battles are inevitable during this mission. However, “The Devils You Know” quest is generally straightforward and not excessively challenging.

The Devils You Know Quest Walkthrough

  1. Begin your journey by traveling to the MAST District and following the quest marker to the elevator. Choose Subsection Seven to proceed further.
  2. As you delve deeper, you’ll reach a guarded door where the assigned Vanguard will request that your companion waits outside. Approach the person inside and communicate with them using the intercom.
  3. This person turns out to be Vae Victus (Francois Sanon), the infamous war criminal. Despite his dark past, he has a request for you: bring Dr. Reginald Orlase, dead or alive, to uncover the whereabouts of Hadrian and Percival’s old research team. While you’re compelled to complete this task, you have the option to visit Deputy Macintyre first to confirm Vae’s order. She recommends bringing Dr. Reginald alive.

Where to Find Dr. Reginald Orlase

  1. Enter your ship and Grav Jump to the Wolf System. Hover over the Chthonia Planet to spot “The Den” and board it. Head to the right to find Captain Rayna Marquez at the end of the hallway. She’ll provide information about Dr. Reginald Orlase’s mysterious location and a strange ship called the Warlock.
  2. Take the coordinates from Captain Marquez and return to your ship. Follow the quest marker to jump into Etherea Ruins, where the Warlock is situated.

Choices: Destroy or Disable the Warlock

After engaging in a heated battle with the Warlock, you face a critical decision: whether to destroy the ship completely or board it after it sustains considerable damage. It’s essential to note that Dr. Reginald Orlase meets his fate in both scenarios. He may perish inside his ship during destruction or commit suicide when you attempt to take him alive.

In either case, ensure you retrieve his UC Science ID as evidence to conclude the mission.

Return to Vae Victus, relay the events, and present him with the UC Science ID. Vae will share that most of the team will find their way to the Red Devils Headquarters, with one exception: Kaiser.

“The Devils You Know” quest in Starfield offers players intriguing choices and an exciting narrative, adding depth to your spacefaring adventures in this expansive universe.
