Bungie Addresses Recent Destiny 2 Disconnects and DDoS Attack

If you’ve been experiencing frustrating Destiny 2 disconnects and encountering error codes in the game lately, you’re not alone. Bungie, the developer behind the popular multiplayer space FPS game, has confirmed that these issues are not the result of recent updates. Instead, they are the consequence of malicious DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks, which have placed significant strain on the game’s infrastructure.

DDoS attacks involve individuals or groups attempting to overwhelm a server, service, or network by inundating it with traffic from multiple sources simultaneously. This flood of traffic can be likened to a digital traffic jam, causing disruptions, interruptions, and, in some cases, temporary halts in functionality for regular users.

The ‘Bungie Help’ Twitter account recently shared a post confirming a noticeable increase in error codes and disconnects in Destiny 2 over the past few days. According to their statement, “The team has confirmed that these error codes are not related to the planned fixes rolling out for the recent crafting issue and are instead a result of DDoS attacks.” This means that the disconnects players are experiencing are not the result of updates aimed at fixing the Destiny 2 crafting exploit that caused chaos in the game last week.

Some of the error codes in question, typical to Bungie’s shooter, include Weasel, Bee, Currant, Coconut, and Centipede error codes. Bungie expressed their gratitude to the players for their patience as they work swiftly to ensure the game’s integrity and implement their roadmap for future stability improvements.

While Bungie typically doesn’t confirm such attacks and doesn’t plan to do so in the future for general game security reasons, they believe it’s essential to inform players about the added pressure on their systems due to recent circumstances. Resolving and preventing DDoS attacks can be quite challenging due to their nature, as traffic comes from numerous sources. Nevertheless, Bungie is actively working to restore stability to the Destiny 2 experience.
