Act 3 in Baldur’s Gate 3 offers a plethora of side quests, and one intriguing quest involves a newspaper editor-in-chief, Ettvard Needle, who wants to publish a defamatory story about you. The only way to salvage your reputation is to swap the story with something far more appealing—cute cat pictures. Here’s how to successfully complete the “Stop the Presses” quest in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Triggering the ‘Stop the Presses’ Quest

Upon conversing with Ettvard Needle, you’ll find yourself ejected from the Baldur’s Mouth Gazette building. Any attempts to re-enter will lead to a confrontation, potentially drawing the Steel Watch into the fray. This can have dire consequences, as you may be arrested on sight by guards or forced into combat if you resist arrest.

Sneaking Into the Basement

To navigate the “Stop the Presses” quest effectively, it’s advisable to use a character with high stealth skills. Additionally, consider providing them with invisibility using scrolls or potions if they lack the invisibility spell. Send this character alone into the building, focusing on one of two entrances leading to the basement: either the elevator or the metal door. Utilizing turn-based mode can be extremely helpful to make the most of the limited invisibility duration.

Swapping News Stories

Once you’ve infiltrated the basement, you’ll encounter Steel Watch guards. Beyond the south wall doors, you’ll discover the Printing Press. If you have saved Dolly Dolly Dolly, the fairy from the Moonlantern, the fairy in the Printing Press will recognize you and provide guidance. They will explain that you need an alternative news story to replace the disparaging one scheduled for publication.

Search the wicker baskets and surfaces in the basement’s various rooms to find several article options. Some articles praise adventurers, while others feature cute cat pictures. Choose the article you wish to disseminate throughout Baldur’s Gate to replace the defamatory story. Return to the Printing Press to complete the quest. Since stealth is crucial during this segment, the best escape is to use a Waypoint and regroup your party elsewhere in the city.

That wraps up the process for completing the “Stop the Presses” quest in Baldur’s Gate 3. Be cautious not to loot items prematurely, as it can trigger bugs that hinder quest progression.
