Valve has taken the gaming world by surprise with the sudden release of Counter-Strike 2, a sequel to one of the most popular games ever. The free-to-play game is now available on Steam, although there is no confirmation of releases on other platforms as of now.

Counter-Strike 2, also known as CS2, utilizes the Source 2 engine, offering improved visuals and Workshop tools, revamped maps, a new ratings system, dynamic smoke grenades, and more. It effectively replaces its predecessor, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
The game was initially announced in March as a free update to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, with the promise that all earned items in CS:GO would carry over to the new game. Valve conducted a limited test of CS2, inviting current CS:GO players based on criteria such as playing time and Steam account status.

The initial announcement showcased significant upgrades to the game in three separate videos:
- “Leveling Up The World,” focusing on map enhancements.
- 2. “Moving Beyond Tick Rate,” detailing new movement and shooting mechanics.
- “Responsive Smokes,” discussing new “dynamic volumetric” smoke grenades.

The Counter-Strike 2 limited test received its latest update on August 31, revealing that a new map called Inferno would be included in the next update, along with the introduction of the CS Rating ranking system.
