Diablo 4 Set to Conquer Steam: Cross-Play and Cross-Progression to Debut on October 17

In a surprising announcement during the October 3 Diablo 4 Steam release Devstream, it was revealed that the highly anticipated action role-playing game (ARPG) Diablo 4 will be coming to the Steam platform. Players can mark their calendars for October 17 when Season 2 of Diablo 4, known as the Season of Blood, launches, offering the option to download and play Diablo 4 on Steam. This move follows a similar step taken by Blizzard earlier this year when Overwatch 2 on Steam made its debut.

One of the most exciting aspects of this revelation is that cross-play in Diablo 4 and cross-progression in Diablo 4 will be available right from day one. This means that players on Steam and Battle.net can seamlessly team up and play together on the same server. However, it’s worth noting that despite the availability on Steam, players will still need a Battle.net account to activate and enjoy the game. This is consistent with Blizzard’s approach, as many of their modern titles are integrated with the Battle.net network.

For players interested in Diablo 4 on Steam, they can already wishlist the game via its dedicated Steam page. It’s expected that the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions will be available for purchase, although pricing details are yet to be disclosed. If pricing follows the structure of the Battle.net version, players can anticipate the Standard edition at $69.99, Deluxe at $89.99, and Ultimate at $99.99.

It’s common knowledge that Steam typically takes a 30% cut for sales through its platform, although Blizzard may have negotiated different terms. Regardless, this move is strategic, especially considering that Diablo 4 player numbers has been in circulation for four months, and many players who wanted to experience it from the beginning have likely done so.

This expansion to Steam not only accommodates players who prefer the platform but also provides accessibility to those who may have Steam wallet purchases for Diablo 4 funds from other transactions. Blizzard’s commitment to supporting Diablo 4 for years to come underscores the importance of reaching as many players as possible. The integration of Diablo 4 on Steam is a welcome addition and, hopefully, part of the game’s long-term plan rather than a response to low player numbers.

Diablo 4 is scheduled to make its debut on Steam on October 17 alongside the launch of Season 2, Season of Blood, promising an exciting new chapter for ARPG gaming community enthusiasts.
