Overwatch 2 players discover a Samoa map detail that could indicate that the long-anticipated hero Mauga might be exceptionally large compared to other heroes.
As Overwatch 2 enthusiasts eagerly await the arrival of Mauga as the next hero in the game, they have been meticulously exploring the new Samoa map for potential hints, and one particular discovery suggests that Mauga could be of colossal proportions. Notably, Overwatch 2 players have come across one of Mauga’s shirts in the game, and it is extraordinarily oversized.
For those not familiar with Mauga, he is a member of the villainous organization Talon and has a significant history with Baptiste, who was once his closest friend when they both served in Talon. However, their bond was severed when Baptiste left Talon upon realizing the organization’s corruption. Mauga was originally intended to be released in the original Overwatch game, taking Sigma’s slot, but Blizzard decided that the character’s abilities did not align with Mauga’s personality, so they introduced Sigma instead, reserving Mauga for future use. At present, the identity of Hero 39 remains unconfirmed, but many players speculate that it will be Mauga.
The primary evidence supporting the idea of Mauga being Overwatch 2’s hero for Season 8, besides the character being classified as a Tank, is the release of the new map in Season 7 – Samoa. This map not only features breathtaking scenery but also serves as Mauga’s place of origin, and the timing of the map’s release has piqued the curiosity of fans. Given that Mauga is of Samoan descent, players quickly began examining the map for potential clues, and one particular discovery has drawn significant attention: Mauga’s shirt. However, the immense size of the shirt has left many players, including Reddit user Zorah_29 who shared images of the item, questioning whether Mauga could realistically be as large in the game. They argue that he would need an extraordinary amount of hit points to survive with such a colossal hitbox, but since Overwatch 2 already features larger characters like Ramattra in Nemesis form, the possibility of Mauga being as massive as his shirt implies cannot be ruled out. Nevertheless, the relative size of other heroes when compared to the shirt does suggest that Mauga’s size may undergo adjustments.
Commenters playfully remarked that Lucio could fit into Mauga’s pocket, and considering his appearance in the shared image, this doesn’t seem like an exaggeration. When Baptiste stands next to his former comrade’s shirt, he appears notably smaller, although certain artwork depicting the two characters emphasizes the substantial size difference. The most striking revelation comes when Reinhardt is seen beside the shirt, as he is one of the largest characters in the game, yet the shirt almost entirely conceals his form.
While Blizzard has occasionally played tricks on players with the introduction of new heroes, such as launching Orisa when many anticipated the debut of Doomfist, it would indeed be astonishing if Mauga were not set to make his appearance in Season 8. Should he arrive in a few months, it appears that he could be an immensely formidable character.
