In Overwatch 2, a common frustration is dealing with teammates who refuse to group up for team fights, making it challenging to turn the tide of a match. Blizzard has introduced a new feature called Group Respawn in the Season 7 update to address this issue, initially in Quick Play mode. This feature aims to encourage more balanced team fights by grouping players together more frequently.

Here’s how Group Respawn works in non-Competitive game modes, as detailed in the Season 7 patch notes:

  1. Heroes who die within 5 seconds of each other will respawn together. This means some players may have slightly longer or shorter queue times than the standard 10 seconds.
  2. Heroes who die more than 5 seconds from another player eliminated will still respawn individually in 10 seconds.

In essence, if you die close to your teammates, you’ll respawn simultaneously. This eliminates the need to wait at the spawn room or catch up with your allies, making it easier to regroup quickly.

The goal of Group Respawn is to enhance team cohesion during matches. Blizzard acknowledges that team fights are some of the most enjoyable moments in Overwatch 2, but a lack of coordination can lead to one-sided matches. With Group Respawn, the focus shifts to team fights, reducing situations where individual players go off on their own.

Initially, Group Respawn is available in Quick Play and Arcade modes. Blizzard will closely monitor player feedback and consider making adjustments before potentially introducing the feature to Competitive Play in a future season.

In summary, Overwatch 2’s Season 7 update introduces the Group Respawn feature to encourage better team coordination and more enjoyable team fights, primarily in Quick Play and Arcade modes. Blizzard plans to assess feedback and may bring this feature to Competitive Play in the future.
