Criticism arises as Pokemon GO fans find fault with the contents and cost of the in-game Veteran Box.

Pokemon GO recently introduced a “Veteran Box” that hasn’t quite hit the mark with players, who are expressing their dissatisfaction regarding both its contents and the steep price of 750 PokeCoins. This isn’t the first time the game has offered bundles in its shop to assist players in exchange for PokeCoins, which can be acquired through in-game tasks or by purchase.
The Veteran Box typically includes berries, which serve various advantages when capturing Pokemon. These berries can help in making Pokemon stay still, increasing catch rates, or obtaining extra candy. Pokemon GO offers a range of berries with different effects.
However, the current Veteran Box fails to include any of the higher-tier berries, making players question its value. Priced at 750 PokeCoins, the box contains 50 Razz Berries, 50 Pinap Berries, and 50 Nanab Berries. While these basic berries do provide certain bonuses, they are also the most basic forms of berries. Players have expressed their disappointment on the Pokemon GO subreddit, noting that such berries can be easily obtained through daily tasks like spinning the disc at a PokeStop or Gym or opening gifts from friends.
Many players have found the price exorbitant, with some even speculating that an extra zero might have been added unintentionally. Comparatively, players can purchase raid passes for less than 750 PokeCoins, and raid rewards often include better berries. What appears most puzzling is the term “Veteran Box” itself, as it implies that it’s designed for long-time players, even though the items are more beneficial for newer players striving to complete their basic Pokedex.
Pokemon GO’s Veteran Box: A Misfit for Veterans
In the world of Pokemon GO, berries play a crucial role in enhancing catch rates. Each type of berry offers different effects, which can be invaluable when capturing challenging Pokemon. However, players can only use one berry per throw, making it essential to choose the right berry for the task.
- Razz Berry: Increases the capture chance by 1.5 times.
- Pinap Berry: Grants double Candy on capture.
- Nanab Berry: Halts the movement of Pokemon.
- Golden Razz Berry: Boosts the capture chance by 2.5 times.
- Silver Pinap Berry: Enhances the capture chance by 1.8 times and provides 2.3 times more Candy upon capture.
Using weaker berries on a Pokeball throw may lead to missed opportunities, where a better berry could have ensured a successful capture. While players might not mind receiving these basic berries for free or at a lower cost from Niantic, paying $7 USD worth of in-game currency for them doesn’t sit well with the majority of players. This has led to a perception that Niantic may be out of touch with its player base, further impacting the opinions of Pokemon GO enthusiasts.
