A Guide on Equipping and Managing Runes for Season of Discovery Abilities

The Season of Discovery in World of Warcraft Classic introduces Runes and Discoveries, transforming the traditional WoW meta with new class-specific abilities. However, equipping these Runes onto gear requires players to navigate through a process that isn’t explicitly explained in-game. Follow this guide to learn how to access the Rune Engraving menu, locate and apply learned Rune abilities, and equip Runes onto gear during the Season of Discovery.

Locating the Rune Engraving Menu

Upon discovering and learning Runes, they occupy an inventory slot but might seem to vanish after consumption. Unlike auto-equipping, Runes must be manually slotted onto gear using the Rune Engraving menu, a location not immediately evident in the game’s interface. However, the process is straightforward.

Upon learning a Rune by right-clicking it in the inventory, open the Character/Equipment screen with the C key. A new menu will appear on the right side, displaying all available Class Runes for equipping. Once a Rune is placed on a piece of gear, the associated abilities will populate the spellbook and occupy the first empty hotbar slot.

It’s essential to note that Rune abilities tied to unequipped gear won’t be accessible in the spellbook.

Equipping Runes in WoW Season of Discovery

After learning a Rune, access the Character/Equipment screen to view the list of acquired Runes. Selecting a Rune will grey out all equipment slots except the one compatible with that specific Rune. Pick the gear piece for engraving and wait a few seconds for the process to complete. As restriction, only one Rune can be engraved onto a piece of gear at a time, replacing any existing Runes.

For instance, the Shadowstrike Rune designed for Rogues applies to Gloves. When choosing the Shadowstrike Rune, only Gloves will be highlighted for engraving. This process mirrors the mechanics of Enchanting, restricting Runes to gear pieces that meet their equipment criteria.

In the Season of Discovery, players can freely switch Runes without cost, unlike Talent respecs that accumulate increased fees. Runes can be engraved anytime outside combat and persist on gear within the inventory, enabling players to create diverse armor sets for various scenarios and leverage the array of new class-specific Runes.
