Black Myth: Wukongs Benchmark Tool Draws Massive Player

Ahead of its anticipated launch next week, Black Myth: Wukong has generated a buzz with its newly released benchmarking tool, drawing an impressive number of players.

Last night, developer Game Science introduced the ‘Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark Tool’ on Steam. This free tool is designed to let players assess their PC’s hardware performance and system compatibility for the upcoming game.

The benchmark tool, which is distinct from the actual game and non-playable, offers customization options to help players test their systems. While benchmark tools typically feature flythroughs showcasing demanding effects or animations, this tool provides no such gameplay experience. Despite this, player engagement has been remarkable.

Game Science announced the tool shortly after 03:00 BST (22:00 ET/19:00 PT), and within an hour, SteamDB reported that over 63,000 users had accessed it. The number of concurrent users has since stabilized around 45,000, making it the 18th most popular game on Steam—surpassing even Baldur’s Gate 3.

The high level of interest is no surprise given that Black Myth: Wukong is the most-wishlisted game on Steam, a position it has held for several months. The enthusiastic response to the benchmark tool highlights the game’s strong anticipation among gamers.
