In Satisfactory, players have the opportunity to craft a range of useful items, including the parachute, an early-game tool that can be a game-changer for exploration and navigation. Here’s a guide on how to acquire and make the most out of the parachute in Satisfactory.
How to Unlock the Parachute
To access the parachute, you’ll need to delve into the Mycelia research tree in the MAM (Molecular Analysis Machine). Follow these steps to unlock the parachute:
- Gather Mycelia: Collect mycelia by harvesting giant mushrooms and fungi using your chainsaw. Look for large hollow spheres north of the starting location and blue mushrooms in caves.
- Research Nodes:
- Mycelia: Requires 5 mycelia.
- Fabric: Requires 25 mycelia and 100 biomass.
- Parachute: Requires 10 fabric and 50 cables.
Once you’ve completed the research, you can craft the parachute at the Equipment Workshop using:
- 20 fabric
- 10 cables
How to Use the Parachute

Equipping and utilizing the parachute is straightforward:
- Equip the Parachute: Drag the parachute to your character’s back slot from the inventory screen or double-click it for automatic equipping.
- Deploy the Parachute: Jump off a ledge or into the air and hold the jump button (default: space). The parachute will deploy, allowing you to glide and slow your descent. Release the jump button once the parachute is open.
- Control Your Descent:
- To increase your falling speed, press the crouch button (default: C).
- To catch yourself just before landing, press the jump button again.
While using the parachute, you can move in all directions and even gain a sprint boost when moving forward. Although movement control is less precise than on the ground, it offers a significant advantage for exploring and reaching new areas.
Exploiting the Parachute
The parachute has an interesting physics exploit that allows for more versatile movement:
- Ascending with the Parachute: If you move forward at full speed and hit a ramp, the parachute can propel you upwards instead of simply descending. This technique can be used to gain altitude and reach places that are otherwise difficult to climb, even surpassing the capabilities of the jetpack.
While this exploit was toned down in the 1.0 release of Satisfactory, it remains effective on various surfaces, including four-meter foundation ramps and steep cliff sides. It offers an alternative method for reaching high places, complementing the ability to build foundation ramps anywhere on the map.
By mastering the use of the parachute, you can enhance your exploration and overcome challenges in Satisfactory with greater ease.
